Deep Reef's 150 gallon tall DT hurricane Irma build

More new toys, after reading about restarting issues after power failure with the new Apex I decided to go GHL P4.

This includes doser and flow meter.

This is an Apex free zone.

The older style power strips are even longer!

Only using 1 power strip?

For those interested in the finish....
Interior:
1 coat primer and 2 coats exterior latex white. I used exterior paint as itís made to hold up against rain/water.

Exterior:
After testing a few different colors and combinations on sample wood I settled on Varathane weathered gray
the reason I did samples as you can see itís not as dark as the picture/can. The application was done on small areas at a time as it dries fast and then is too thick.

After the stain I went with Varathane polyurethane which claims to apply thicker.
. And it does. You have to put it on thin an avoid too much as it will create drips which dry white. By the way I chose a satin finish.

Then a sand with either 320 or 400 grit sandpaper. This removes wood fibers that stand up along with any drips I might have missed. Once sanded a wipe with a tack cloth to remove dust
then a second coat.

Another sanding and I will be ready for the final coat.

Installed the ventilation fans in my canopy. I saved these from my last build.

Also installed the shower liner in the base of the cabinet to water proof it.

Then finally I realize that I may be mounting some controls on the control area door. The middle area is not thick due to the shaker style of the door. So I stained and polyurethanes a piece of plywood that could be secured at the edges but will allow me to mount anywhere.

Installed the marble tile top left of stand

I installed gray caulk around the perimeter so if I spill something it wonít get under the tile

Completed running a dedicated 20 amp circuit for the tank.

And finally I installed all the doors

Itís almost time to install equipment!

Cut the 1/4Ē ABS plastic to fit the bottom of the tank to protect the glass like some manufacturers. I left about a half inch gap around the perimeter so the ABS wouldnít cut into the factory seals.
Then I put silicone on the entire perimeter to seal it so I donít get water or detritus build up between the abs and glass. Since I had my sand I figured it would help push the ABS close to the bottom glass.

I also made an egg rate cover to prevent fish from jumping into the overflow.

While it doesnít look great, with the canopy on you will never see it.

Set the tank on the stand. Now the plumbing begins.

Just a quick check on level both directions.

Did a herbie style return but increased size similar to durso to maximize return flow. Installed a street elbow so I could have 2 return 1 1/2Ē strainers.

Setup just fits in the corner of the overflow. It also provides a dual strainer so if one clogs the other one will still take water.

Very nice build! Sorry to hear aboout you losing your original fish stock; I had a 180 wip out due to power loss as well.

I have the same tank you have now and will be building a similar stand. Very nice detail in your thread, thank you!
